ARE ALIENS ACTUALLY DEMONS?

ARE ALIENS ACTUALLY DEMONS?

Over 50 years ago Congress held public hearings on the Air Force's efforts to investigate unexplained aerial phenomena in an effort called "Project Blue Book". At the time Military officers were pretty much afraid to say what they really saw and this led to a bajillion movies on the subject. Even then the subject wasn't new. Movies have referenced aliens since at least 1902 (TRIP TO THE MOON) and possibly well before that. We also pretty much got told back in 2020 that at the very least UFOs were real when the Pentagon released 3 videos showing encounters with military aviators. This is all public record. Then on July 26, 2023, a former intel official testified that the U.S. has recovered non-human 'biologics' from UFO crash sites.

The first thing I need to do is clarify what I mean by "aliens". I am not talking about "strangers" or "foreigners". I am talking about literal physical aliens flying around in spacecraft. "Little green men" type stuff.

For some reason, Christians and others on the internet began claiming that "aliens were demons". Naturally, I challenged the people saying this to give me a single Bible verse that stated this. The best anyone came up with was a flawed argument citing Ezekiel. I will get to that in a moment.

What Paul does write in his letter to the church at Ephesus is the following:
EPHESIANS 6:12 "For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places."

That last part can also be translated "in high places". (Vines def. d), but the central idea here is that our wrestle isn't against flesh and blood, but against non-physical demonic powers. This is not saying in any way that "aliens are demons". Using that logic, you would have to project the same thing onto physical principalities, rulers, etc.

This text isn't even saying that there is such a thing as "little green men" aliens at all. What we are told in this text is that there are "spiritual hosts". This doesn't mean that there is nothing out there. In fact, we are told there explicitly IS something out there. However, it is extremely unlikely that they are demons themselves and this notion simply isn't scriptural.

Most people like to cite Ezekiel as I mention earlier. In Chapter 1:4-10 we read this;

4 "Then I looked, and behold, a whirlwind was coming out of the north, a great cloud with raging fire engulfing itself; and brightness was all around it and radiating out of its midst like the color of amber, out of the midst of the fire. 5 Also from within it came the likeness of four living creatures. And this was their appearance: they had the likeness of a man. 6 Each one had four faces, and each one had four wings. 7 Their legs were straight, and the soles of their feet were like the soles of calves’ feet. They sparkled like the color of burnished bronze. 8 The hands of a man were under their wings on their four sides; and each of the four had faces and wings. 9 Their wings touched one another. The creatures did not turn when they went, but each one went straight forward.10 As for the likeness of their faces, each had the face of a man; each of the four had the face of a lion on the right side, each of the four had the face of an ox on the left side, and each of the four had the face of an eagle."

When I was a kid and I read that, I was like -- I'm not saying it was aliens...but it was aliens.

However, given the rest of the text in that chapter, we can infer that living creatures were related to cherubim which were celestial beings associated with God's holiness (not demons or aliens as defined above). We can approach the four living creatures with a couple of different interpretations. Either they were highly symbolic representations of deity, or they were highly symbolic representations of angelic beings who serve in God's presence. They were MORE LIKELY angels because God Himself is revealed in verse 26 of the same chapter.

So here we establish two things.

1. There is something out there and we are definitely not alone. However, the Bible is not saying they are most definitely little green demons flying around without their pilots' licenses just crashing on Earth for no good reason.

2. The powers that Paul is talking about are of a spiritual nature. So while if there are actually "monster or manlike aliens" out there. We don't need to run up and punch them in the face assuming they are demons. We only punch them in the face if they are going to try and milk us, suck our brains out, or otherwise harm us.

Some contend that John 10:16 eludes to life on other planets. I think this is a stretch and really ends up injecting something into the scripture that isn't there. Notice none of the disciples even bothered to ask what Jesus meant by this. The sheep were simply Gentiles.

John 10:16 And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd.

One flock here has the idea of the Jews and the Gentiles forming the Church. Keep in mind in John 7:35 the Jews were specifically asking if He would go teach the Gentiles.

John 7:35 Then the Jews said among themselves, “Where does He intend to go that we shall not find Him? Does He intend to go to the Dispersion among the Greeks and teach the Greeks? Right after that, He goes on to talk about the Holy Spirit. My study in Ephesians goes heavily into the Jews and Gentiles forming one church.

There is a ton more to offer on this, but here are a few conclusions we can draw from scripture.

1. Scripture is silent on little green men in flying saucers. I believe inferring that is explicit on this is scripture twisting, but scripture is clear that we are NOT ALONE.

2. IF aliens do exist it has ZERO impact on us as Christians or God's plan for mankind. God may have a completely different plan for them if they exist, but again, we are not told that. That should tell you how unimportant aliens are to salvation and our walk with God.

3. Dwelling on the existence or nonexistence of aliens is a waste of time when it comes to eternity. In other words, it simply doesn't matter if aliens exist or not, nor does it change anything.

1 Corinthians 15:27 For “He has put all things under His feet.” But when He says “all things are put under Him,” it is evident that He who put all things under Him is excepted.

4. Christians need to stop saying aliens are demons if they exist. This idea is not based in biblical text or theology and it's one of those things that could end up getting looked back on a century from now as being one of those things that pulled masses into sects or cults that started to focus on these things rather than our walk with God.

Continuing in Ephesians from earlier in this commentary. We are told exactly what we need to do.

Ephesians 6:13-18 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—

I am not going to spend a ton of time on this moving forward, but if you have any questions, I am more than happen to do my best to answer them.
