GALATIANS 6:4-7 WHATEVER A MAN SOWS HE WILL ALSO REAP

GALATIANS 6:4-7 But let each one examine his own work, and then he will have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another. 5 For each one shall bear his own load. 6 Let him who is taught the word share in all good things with him who teaches. 7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.

NSB* - ...a Christian should always examine his own work to see if he is closely following Christ's example. (para).

2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified.

Examine: The KJV uses the word "prove". Thayer denotes - Thayer: 1) to test, examine, prove, scrutinise (to see whether a thing is genuine or not), as metals 2) to recognise as genuine after examination, to approve, deem worthy. Strong's defines it is as to test (literally or figuratively); by implication, to approve. The Greek word for prove here is δοκιμάζω dokimazō. Strong's G1381. 

Rejoicing: a boast (properly, the object; by implication, the act) in a good or a bad sense. My Notes: In this instance, it's good because you are proving or examining yourself and being able to rejoice as a result of sowing well. The distinction is important because it's not rejoicing because you followed your own way or ideas, but because you have followed Christ. The Greek word for rejoice is καύχημα kauchēma. Strong's G2745

Moving to Verses 5 and 6

Galatians 6:5-6 For each one shall bear his own load. 6 Let him who is taught the word share in all good things with him who teaches. 

NSB* - One important way to bear other believers' burdens (v.2) is to share in all good things, including financial support, with one who teaches God's word. After all, teachers and preachers work hard in their ministry. (see 1 Timothy 5:17)

The Greek word used here is λόγος logos.

Taught: to sound down into the ears, i.e., (by implication) to indoctrinate ("catechize") or (genitive case) to apprise of. Dobson denotes - I instruct orally, I instruct orally, teach, inform. The Greek word used here is κατηχέω katēcheō.

Share: The KJV uses the word communicate here. I share, communicate, have fellowship with (a) I share, communicate, contribute, impart, (b) I share in, have a share of, have fellowship with. Thayer denotes: 1) to come into communion or fellowship with, to become a sharer, be made a partner 2) to enter into fellowship, join one's self to an associate, make one's self a sharer or partner. Strong's defines it as to share with others (objectively or subjectively). The Greek word for communicate is κοινωνέω koinōneō. Strong's G2841.

Moving to Verse 7.

Galatians 6:7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.

NSB* - The principle of sowing and reaping was known to everyone in a largely agricultural society. It is a vain attempt to "mock" God for a Christian to think that if he sows to his flesh, he can escape the harvest of destruction and judgment that comes upon those who participate in sin (5:19-21; Hosea 8:7).

Decieved: (Eng., "planet"), in the Passive form sometimes means "to go astray, wander,". To (properly, cause to) roam (from safety, truth, or virtue). Thayer expands - 1) to cause to stray, to lead astray, lead aside from the right way

1a) to go astray, wander, roam about 2) metaph. 2a) to lead away from the truth, to lead into error, to deceive 2b) to be led into error 2c) to be led aside from the path of virtue, to go astray, sin 2d) to sever or fall away from the truth 2d1) of heretics 2e) to be led away into error and sin. The Greek word for deceived is πλανάω planaō. Vine's (def C-6 (1)), Strong's G4105. 

Mocked: I sneer at, disdain (properly: I turn up the nose as a sign of contempt), I sneer at, disdain. The Greek word is μυκτηρίζω muktērizō . Strong's G3456.

Sow: 1) to sow, scatter, seed 2) metaph. of proverbial sayings. to scatter, i.e. sow (literally or figuratively). My notes - Here, it has the idea of "sowing" to the flesh, or operating based on the corruption of the flesh rather than the Holy Spirit. The Greek word for sow is σπείρω speirō. Strong's G4687.

Reap: to harvest. My Notes: Spiritually or physically suffering or benefiting from what has been sown either in the Spirit or the flesh. Thayer denotes: 1) to reap, harvest 2) a proverbial expression for sowing and reaping 3) cut off, destroy

3a) as crops are cut down with a sickle. The Greek word used here is θερίζω theridō. Strong's G2325.

Takeaway: We must constantly be fighting against sin and embracing God's word through Jesus Christ. This is not something our flesh can do on its own; we are completely dependent on Christ. Find a good church if you can, if you can't find fellowship with strong men and women of the Lord. Stay in the Word of God, worship and praise God, obeying His will for your life. Every Christian should expect a battle. We are never told that the fight against the flesh will be easy, but we have an opportunity for the reaping to glorify God and be beneficial to our souls.
